Whipcord is looking for an experienced, positive and energetic person to join our team as a Systems Administrator / Data Centre Technician based in our Toronto data centre. This is an exciting opportunity with a company very focused on growth. The role of the Systems Administrator / Data Centre Technician is to operate and maintain the data centre infrastructure including power, cooling, and security systems while also assisting with administration of network devices, monitoring and other systems. Ideally, the candidate will assist with administration of Whipcord’s Vmware-based private cloud services and Veeam based backup and Disaster Recovery products as well.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Maintain Toronto data centre infrastructure including generators, UPS systems, power distribution, CRAC units, environmental monitoring, access control system and security systems
  • Assist Toronto colocation customers with “remote hands” requests such as equipment racking, hardware replacements and configuration
  • Assist with other Whipcord Edge systems including network devices, Windows and Linux servers, VMware and Veeam infrastructure
  • Maintain system documentation and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Assist with SOC audit
  • Provide capacity reports and forecasting
  • Assist with daily IT operations (service provisioning, customer service, ticket management, troubleshooting, monitoring, etc.)
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support

 

Requirements and Skills:

Significant practical experience in the following areas:

  • Data centre infrastructure including power and cooling systems
  • General Linux and/or Windows system administration

Proficiency in and of the following would be an asset:

  • VMware vSphere
  • Veeam Backup and Replication / Veeam Cloud Connect
  • Storage administration (including FC/FCoE, iSCSI, and NAS protocols)
  • IP networks (including LAN, WAN, BGP, VPN, and wireless technologies)
  • Database administration (PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL, MySQL)

Qualifications:
