Junior Systems Administrator

Whipcord is looking for a bright, positive and energetic person to join our team as a Junior Systems Administrator. This is an exciting opportunity with a company very focused on growth. The Junior Systems Administrator will serve as technical delivery on virtual environments, storage systems, and backup environments. The successful candidate will be a contributing staff member on multiple operating systems and platforms supporting enterprise-wide or large-scale computing who is always focused on customer service.

Whipcord, an Alberta-based company, owns and operates a Tier 3 designed data centre in Lethbridge, and other facilities in Vancouver and Toronto. Since 2011, Whipcord has established itself as a national provider of IT services and we are proud of our supportive, loyal customer base. We currently have sales offices in Calgary and Vancouver and are heavily focused on growth.

We are a high-performance infrastructure company offering IT services that are fast and flexible within our four areas of specialization:

  • Infrastructure as a Service (Cloud)
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery as a Service Solutions

  • Network Connectivity

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily IT operations (service provisioning, customer service, ticket management, troubleshooting, monitoring, etc.)
  • Infrastructure implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting (network, storage, and compute)
  • Internal IT support (desktops/laptops, printers, wireless, etc.)
  • Data centre infrastructure monitoring and maintenance
  • Change management and documentation
  • Operate and maintain Whipcord's data centre facilities, infrastructure, and services
  • Provide end-user support to both Whipcord customers and employees
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support
  • Assist with design and implementation of new systems and service

Requirements and Skills

  • Practical experience in at least two of the following fields:

    • IP networks (including LAN, WAN, BGP, VPN, and wireless technologies)
    • Storage administration (including FC/FCoE, iSCSI, and NAS protocols)
    • Virtual infrastructure (VMWare 6.x, Hyper-V, or other)
    • System administration (Windows, Linux, Solaris, *BSD)
    • Database administration (PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL, MySQL)

Qualifications 

  • C.E.T, BS or MS with a major in computer science or similar preferred (or equivalent industry certification such as A+, MCSE, CCNA/CCNP, VCP, etc.)
